Starting a New Lawn

Overseed an established lawn or patch bare spots with the C-I-L® GOLFGREENTM Grass Seed that's right for your lawn. All GOLFGREENTM Grass Seeds are 99.9% weedfree and contain absolutely no filler. Choose from our selection of Grass Seeds that have been formulated for specific growing conditions.

Seeding

Seeding is less expensive than sod. It can be done in spring or late August/early September.

Step 1 - Soil Preparation

Soil preparation is important. Remove all trash, perennial roots and stones. Use C-I-L® WIPEOUT® to kill off unwanted grass and weeds.

CAUTION: WIPEOUT® will also kill grass on contact. Treat only those areas designated for renovation and always read the label before applying.

C-I-L® GOLFGREEN™ Lawn StarterBreak up soil lumps and add organic matter such as HILLVIEW® MOO POO®. C-I-L® ULTIMATE TRIPLE MIX® contains PROFILE™ Soil Conditioner. PROFILE™ helps aerate clay soil and retains moisture in sandy soils. Level and firm the surface to make mowing easier when the lawn is established. Make sure that the grade will drain water away from the house.

Step 2 - Fertilizing

Once the soil is prepared, fertilize with C-I-L® GOLFGREEN™ Lawn Starter which is specially formulated for new lawns. Apply 7 kg for 175 m2 and work into soil at a depth of 8 cm (3"). Water in well to help settle the soil, allow to drain, and while the surface is still workable, rake the soil to a final grade.

Step 3 - Seeding

CIL Grass Seed SpreaderImmediately seed with C-I-L® GOLFGREEN™ Grass Seed using a seed spreader. Apply twice at half the recommended rate using a crisscross pattern for complete coverage. Rake seed in gently and tap lightly with the back of the rake. Seed should be buried no deeper than 6 mm (1/4").

Step 4 - Maintenance

Water gently, and keep damp until grass is 3 cm (1 1/4") high. New grass should not be cut until it reaches a height of 8 cm (3"). After third cutting, (in 6 weeks) fertilize with C-I-L® GOLFGREEN™ Lawn Fertilizer.

Laying Sod

Sod is more expensive than seeding, but delivers immediate results.

Step 1 - Soil and Seeded Preparation

Follow the steps described for preparing a seedbed. For best results, use C-I-L® ULTIMATE Lawn and Garden Soil.

Step 2 - Fertilizing

Fertilize with C-I-L® GOLFGREEN™ Turf Starter Lawn Fertilizer before laying sod.

Step 3 - Laying Sod

Start laying sod in a straight row pressing the edges together. Gently tap the sod in place, check the level as you go and remove or add soil as necessary. Start the next row with a half piece of sod, so that a brickwork pattern is established.

ROLLING - Roll the sod lightly after laying, to press it into place. Fill in cracks between the sod with C-I-L® ULTIMATE Lawn and Garden Soil. Keep the new sod moist until the grass is growing vigorously.

Step 4 - Maintenance

Once the sod has taken, (in 3 weeks) feed with C-I-L® GOLFGREEN™ Lawn Fertilizer and follow the C-I-L® GOLFGREEN™ Healthy Lawn Program
